mould Abatement
Course Overview: Professional Mould Abatement and Remediation
Mould Abatement is a technical discipline that requires a firm grasp of microbiology, building science, and environmental safety. This course is designed to transform property professionals into experts capable of identifying, containing, and eliminating fungal growth. While often viewed as a simple cleaning task, true remediation involves understanding the complex "life support systems" that allow mould to thrive within a structure. Participants will learn how to move beyond treating symptoms to solving the underlying moisture dynamics that drive infestations.
The curriculum provides a comprehensive deep dive into the biological nature of mould, its health implications, and the industry-standard protocols for safe removal. From identifying high-risk species to mastering the "Clean Room" technology required for safe abatement, this course covers the full spectrum of fungal management. You will gain the skills needed to conduct thorough site audits, implement preventative building strategies, and manage the liability associated with indoor air quality and structural hygiene.
Core Learning Pillars
Microbiology & Growth Factors: Understanding what mould is and the "Magic Triangle" of growth: a food source (organic material), the right temperature, and—most critically—moisture.
Health & Structural Risks: Analyzing why mould is a primary concern for occupant health (respiratory issues and allergens) and structural integrity (decay of cellulose-based materials).
Identification & Classification: Differentiating between common types of mould and understanding which species, such as Stachybotrys chartarum, require advanced containment.
The "Hot Zones" of Growth: Mastering the inspection of typical problem areas, including HVAC systems, crawlspaces, window seals, and attic bypasses.
The Remediation Protocol: Step-by-step training on professional abatement, including negative air pressure, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial application.
Preventative Science: Learning to use moisture meters and infrared cameras to detect "hidden" moisture and implementing humidity control strategies to prevent recurrence.
